Noise reduction programs for small and large industrial complexes and commercial premises, from preliminary planning to certification of new projects and control of existing problems.
Mechanical Acoustics
Control of noise from mechanical systems, particularly air-conditioning for all types of buildings, both internally and externally.
Residential Acoustics
Orientation and construction of residences relative to the acoustic environment, e.g. aircraft, traffice, industry. Noise control between occupied spaces (such as for compliance with Building Code requirements).
Hearing Conservation
Undertaking surveys to comply with Hearing Conservation Codes and Regulations, advising on control methods to reduce noise exposure.
Legal
Investigating of noise complaints to provide evidence for actions under the Noise Control Act, licensing courts, strata titles, compensation courts, and acting as expert witness when required.
Overseas
The firm has carried out work in several overseas countries including Dubai, Papua New Guinea, Iran, Singapore, Hong Kong, New Zealand, The Philippines and Thailand.
Planning
Carrying out site investigation to ascertain suitability of sites for residential or commercial development, assessing the impact of a proposed development on the existing acoustical environment, advising on location of mechanical equipment and after activity areas.
Transport
Undertaking traffic noise evaluation surveys related to proposed new roads, alterations to existing roads, certification of vehicle noise emission.
Vibration
Isolation of buildings from railways lines both above and underground, isolation of elctro microscopes, assessing suitability of buildings for computer installations, field tests of vibration isolated floor systems, gymnasium floor isolation, plant room design, trouble shooting & isolation .
Environmental Noise Impact Reports
Preparation of reports for inclusion in Environmental Impact Statements for new projects.
Featured 'Portico' Scots Church Residential Development
In 2008, PKA Acoustic Consulting were involved in the acoustic planning of the 'Portico' Scots Church development in inner Sydney. The 1920s heritage listed church had not been in use and was marked for redevelopment under the design direction of TZG Architects.
PKA consulted on the project regarding external noise impact - with recommendations for suitable materials to provide sound attenuation. External noise impact surveys were conducted, taking into account the noise emissions of city transportation. Potential noise impact from open plan designs and air conditioning systems were also assessed.
The firm was sensitive to the restorative yet modern spirit of the project, considering suitable design and material solutions to meet the heritage design preference - without compromising acoustic goals.
